What goes into a content marketing strategy plan?
In the first blog post, we covered some of what the plan should include and went through half the eight steps to get there. Here are the other four pieces of this journey you want to pay attention to!
5. Prioritize Topics
At the end of the last list, we were talking about finding topic ideas. Then, you want to prioritize them according to where the content will be and what type of content it is. Now, your roadmap is getting fairly more concrete and defined, which is good because you’re making your way toward the end.
6. Create a content calendar
Then there’s a different kind of context – time.
You can also throw in money – the amount of investment you want to spend on content marketing for your business.
The calendar can address all of these concerns and more. It can show you who’s going to be working on what type of content, when things will be posted, and how much they will cost. A comprehensive document can do wonders for keeping everyone on the same page. Some businesses use specific software, while others post calendars in Google Docs or elsewhere.
7. Promote your content
After you’ve produced all of this great content marketing, you need to bring it to the channels where will make the most difference.
You’re likely to already have some guidance on this because earlier in the plan, if you remember, we decided to choose content types partially according to where they would appear – on the company website, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.
So promoting involves getting the stuff on this on its particular channel and then linking it to other visibility opportunities.
8. Monitor your performance
At the end of the plan, you sit back and watch what people do with your content.
You can analyze things like bounce rate and indirect conversion. You can take a look at page view numbers and how they change over time. All of it gives you valuable clues into how your customers perceive your carefully crafted content.
Benefits of a content marketing strategy plan
Now, let’s talk a little bit about why this is important.
Here are four major benefits of developing one of these comprehensive plans:
1- Align content with business goals
You want your content to be effective in reaching people in a way that promotes your business and what it sells
2- Stakeholder support
Many businesses have a variety of various sets of stakeholders – they have the business owners and the employees. They have the salespeople and the logistics people. They have suppliers, and they have oversight committees or other structures.
The plan can help make sure everyone’s on the same page
3- Streamline processes
In general, it’s just easier to do something if you have a defined and detailed plan. That’s another benefit of this type of extra effort when it comes to content marketing.
4- Analyze and optimize results
The outcomes from your plan should be valuable business intelligence. Data is everything to business today, and having some additional concrete indicators often helps.
